Private Pilot Licence
The Private Pilot Licence is designed for the individual who wishes to add additional qualifications to their licence. It is also the first qualification needed to train further for the Commercial Pilot Licence. Additional ratings could include the night rating, multi-engine rating, instrument flight rating and/or float plane rating, depending on your specific needs.

REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN LICENCE

Minimum Age: 17 years
Medical Required: Class 3 Medical

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Below is an outline of what Transport Canada requires as a minimum flight time to complete the Private Pilot Licence.
Minimum Flight Time: 45 hours (minimum requirement)
Dual Flying: 17 hours
Dual Flying Cross Country: 3 hours
Dual Flying Instrument Time: 5 hours
Solo Flying: 12 hours
Solo Flying Cross Country: 5 hours

Ground School
- 40 hours including the following subjects: Canadian Aviation Regulations; Aerodynamics and Theory of Flight; Meteorology; Airframes, Engines, and Systems; Flight Instruments; Radio and Electronic Theory; Navigation; Flight Operations; Licensing Requirements; and Human Factors including Pilot Decision-Making. This course is conducted onsite and is usually one night a week, for 16 weeks.

EXAMINATIONS AND FLIGHT TEST

Written Examination: Written Examination is conducted at Transport Canada. A minimum of 60% in each of four areas - Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology, Aeronautics/General Knowledge - is required as well as in the overall written examination.

Flight Test: Flight Tests are conducted from our school by Transport Canada approved examiners.

PRIVILEGES TO THE HOLDER OF LICENCE

The Private Pilot Licence allows a holder to fly day VFR, domestic or foreign, in aircraft up to 12,500 pounds with as many passengers as the aircraft is certified to carry. The following ratings may be added to the Private Pilot licence: Night Rating; VFR Over the Top Rating (VFR-OTT); Multi-Engine Rating; Instrument Rating; and Float Endorsement.

NOTE: The Private Pilot Licence is also your gateway to obtaining a Commercial Pilot Licence and a career in aviation, including an Instructor Rating.
