Night Rating
The Night Rating is probably the most enjoyable rating any aviator can achieve, and the one with the least training time.The rating allows you to carry passengers at night. This opens up a whole new world of flying adventures! Flying at night is very different to daylight flying and many find it more enjoyable.

REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN LICENCE

Minimum Age: 17 years
Medical Required: Class 3 Medical
Minimum Licence: Private Pilot Licence

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Below is an outline of what Transport Canada requires as a minimum flight time to complete the Night Rating.
Minimum Flight Time: 15 hours (including 5 additional hours of instrument training)
Dual Night Flying: 5 hours (2 hours cross country)
Solo Night Flying: 5 hours (to include 10 take-offs and landings)

EXAMINATIONS AND FLIGHT TEST

Written Examination: Not Required. Must meet the Flight Instructor Standards.

Flight Test: Not Required. Must meet the Flight Instructor Standards.

PRIVILEGES TO THE HOLDER OF LICENCE

The Night Rating allows a pilot to operate an aircraft in night VFR conditions. The training time required for a Night Rating can be applied towards obtaining a Commercial Pilot Licence and is a recommended first step towards qualifying for a Commercial Pilot Licence.
